durable medical equipment

Durable medical equipment (DME) is medical equipment, such as walkers, wheelchairs, or hospital beds, that is ordered by a doctor for use in the home. These items must be reusable equipment that can withstand repeated use, is primarily and usually used to serve a medical purpose, is generally not useful to a person in the absence of the illness or injury, and is appropriate for use in the home.
